Abstract |
Background. In recent decades, there has been an increase in the number of patients hospitalized in the maxillofacial surgery unit. A half of them are patients with purulent-inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial area (MFA). The second most often disorder in the overall structure of purulent-inflammatory diseases of MFA is phlegmon, differing in localization. This article is devoted to the study of the incidence of purulent-inflammatory diseases of MFA, the evaluation of the effectiveness of secondary suturing and the use of “Dermatix” silicone gel on extensive postoperative wounds resulting from the treatment of phlegmons.
Materials and methods. A statistical analysis of the data obtained in 2017 as a result of studying the case histories of 187 patients with purulent-inflammatory diseases of MFA was performed. A prospective open study covered 30 patients diagnosed with phlegmon of MFA. The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of secondary suturing on a postoperative wound. The patients were randomized into two equal groups of 15 people. The patients of the first group after inflammatory phenomena relief on the wounds were subject to secondary sutures. The patients of the second group were having “Dermatix” silicone gel applied for 3 months 2 times a day to the skin in the scar area immediately after wound healing and removal of secondary sutures.
Results. A statistical analysis of the data on some medical and social indicators is given: the age-sex structure, structure of the disease. Particular attention is paid to the technique of applying secondary sutures to the postoperative wound resulting from the treatment of phlegmon and the effectiveness of the use of “Dermatics” silicone gel. The merit of these methods is revealed - the formation of subtle scars in aesthetically important areas.
Conclusions. In the course of the study, the relationship of aesthetic rehabilitation of patients with phlegmon and the treatment method was established. The suggested areas for application of the research results are maxillofacial surgery and traumatology.
